Myakka River Trail Rides proudly breeds and promotes one of the world’s rarest and most striking horse breeds — the Akhal-Teke. Originating from the Karakum Desert, once part of ancient Persia, this exceptional Turkmen breed has been cherished for more than three thousand years. Known for their speed, endurance, intelligence, and signature metallic sheen, Akhal-Tekes are often called the “golden horses.” Our Akhal-Tekes, along with select equine partners, are occasionally available for purchase in Myakka. They are easily recognized by their refined heads, almond-shaped eyes, long straight necks, and sleek, greyhound-like frames.
We are also standing our purebred Akhal-Teke stallion, Elvis — a proven producer — to all breeds. Visitors are welcome to schedule a tour, meet Elvis, and view his offspring on our property before making a breeding decision. Historically, Akhal-Tekes were used to improve a variety of breeds, and we are proud to reintroduce this tradition in modern times. Akhal-Teke crosses are known for exceptional health, remarkable endurance, the ability to thrive in both high and low temperatures, and their distinctly refined appearance. Their gaits are soft, smooth, and powerful.
